This winter in Scotland has been "the worst in 30 years" and snow covered the ground for nearly a month in Edinburgh. The city gets no more than a few snowflakes in many winters. The icy roads and bitter cold kept us close to Edinburgh rather than out in the country on this preparation day.
Watch the movie (several versions-we saw Disney's) Greyfriar's Bobby. It's a sweet true story of a dog who was loyal to his master in life and in death and this small monument in the heart of Edinburgh is erected to Bobby's memory.

St. Giles Cathedral on the Royal Mile just a couple of blocks down the hill from Edinburgh Castle.
This picture hardly fits here but we couldn't resist. This is a Highland "coo" and her calf. There are no cows in Scotland . . . they are all coos!
Those are some shaggy cows! I didn't realize they had a bovine variety whose hair didn't stop growing or fall out after it got longer than an inch or so! We were very impressed by the mission home photo. Every picture looks like it came from Harry Potter.
