First Zone Conference - 12-23-2009

Zone Conference just before Christmas included a party with Santa. Santa was one of the senior missionaries from the archives who we work with and the suit is apparently used annually by the mission as it is stored at the mission home. We each received a big box of Costco brownies (yes, there is a Costco in Edinburgh) and another copy of the Book of Mormon (more below about that). Mingling with the young elders and sisters is a real treat for senior missionaries. It gets us invigorated! Our mission includes missionaries from Germany, Spain, Ireland, England, Hong Kong and the US. Wonderfully dedicated, capable, young missionaries.

Tools of our Trade (when we're not at the archives). Our mission president and his wife gave each of us a new Book of Mormon, two colored pencils and their testimonies inside as Christmas gifts. We were asked to read the book in the first quarter of 2010 marking all references to Christ (including pronouns) in one color and all direct words of Christ or those of Christ spoken by the prophets (ie. "thus saith the Lord") in another color. This was an exercise that Elder Holland and Elder Cook did together when they were companions in England. Through I Nephi 13, we have already noted 285 references to the Savior. It's been enjoyable study to share together and reminds us that the Book of Mormon truly is another Testament of Jesus Christ.

  1. I can't believe how helpful your blog has been to DeVon and I. We never would have thought of pictures of the apartment or of the different foods, but what fun! You are really giving others a "picture" of your life there. It has helped us to think of some of the things we would want our kids to know of life in Australia.

  2. That sounds like a great gift. I think I might try that out and see how it works out for me. What a fantastic challenge. I was reading a couple comments that Elder Holland had about his mission president (Elder Marion D. Hanks) and how he really had a great testimony of The Book of Mormon.
