Bad Post Replaced -24 Apr 2010

(Ned here - again) With the new digital cameras, such fantastic camera operators and supreme QCers (quality control), our archive project has been burning through the books - and we ran out. Actually, there was also some problems with the contract work, ownership control rights and ineffective ordering, but the end result was the same - no books to image. That is why our blog has reported on so many places to visit of late. More time off. Well the book draught is over.

And the new volumes are HUGE! We could run out of these too, but hopefully more will be behind them.

I know I have described imaging before, so I will refrain, but the "wee curtain" is new (to keep the bright lights out of my eyes). And this gives a picture of the new BIG books. They are a little hard to handle - a bit heavy, they don't fold out well (which makes it hard to image in the binding), they have several different colors of pages which seem to be randomly interspersed (they need to have the exposure reset each time they change), and some of the pages are smaller than others, which requires the imager to "slip sheet" them (put a dark paper behind them so extraneous material does not show up in the picture.)

Ross and Dorothy, far left, have just finished their mission - this is our last lunch together (sort of like the last supper, but not so fancy). This is where we "see the light of day" at work. Ray and Carol finished their mission a week ago, but we don't have a picture. It saddens us to see them go for several reasons, not the least of which is that they are good friends and, with the lack of new books to image, they will likely not be replaced. We now have three couples and a part-time local Scottish couple. The dynamics will not be the same. We have really enjoyed having five couples.

Our Mireva has changed colors - it used to be silver. Actually we changed with Ray and Carol when they left - this is two years newer and does not have the flashing light problem that our old one did. (The emergency flashers for no good reason and without provocation, would suddenly start flashing and you could not turn them off. Finally we accidentally found a solution: turn everything off, get out and lock the car, then unlock it, get back in, find that the flasher button is now flashing, turn it off, and presto - the lights stop flashing.) It helps if you also pray about it. Today the blue Mireva lost its power steering. This is easier to fix, you take it to the dealer, per the manual, or you turn the car off and restart it, per the missionaries we called - it is an electrical problem. Duh. With no power steering, it was almost impossible to muscle it out of the tight parking in our narrow garage.
