(Ned here) Mike gets the honor of being our first guest to visit us in Scotland. It was just a short weekend trip tagged on to a business trip to London, but we loved it. We spent Saturday in Edinburgh.

Just proof that it happened - Mike in front of the Edinburgh Castle. We saved the Castle Tour itself for his next trip with his family.

We started the day climbing 287 steps to the top of the Scott Monument (as in Sir Walter Scott, the author, born in Edinburgh). There are four progressively higher levels to stop and view from. Below are two shots from the tower.
We toured the National Art Gallery, pictured in the center below the Edinburgh Castle. It had a good collection of art, including two Rembrandt's and two Monet's. Though not as famous, I liked the Scottish collection the best.
Edinburgh has been called the Athens of the North, in part because of the unfinished Parthenon-like column structure in the background. Edinburgh is the city housing the Scottish Parliment and functions as the capital of Scotland. It is beautiful, refined, historic, educated, and exciting. Though not city people, we have grown to love Edinburgh. To know her is to love her, and as cities go, she is beautiful!
